Like the number of random plants I'm hoarding in my bedroom and Juno's favorite kind of cheese.
10) I did not name Juno
When I introduce a space nerd to my dog they immediately assume I named her after NASA’s Juno mission to Jupiter.
I didn't, but our story is pretty cool:
In August 2012 I signed up to foster a dog through a rescue I volunteered with. I was assigned to foster a “young female lab mix” and “Juno” was already her name. I didn’t even know about the Juno mission until 2013 when I saw a mug at the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex with her name on it. I bought it – obviously! I also looked for more Juno swag but couldn’t find any. I tweeted about it and received a response from NASA JPL. They sent me Juno stickers and a patch! It’s now framed and hanging up in my room! =)
A fun fact is that NASA Juno and my Juno were launched/born in the same year – 2011!
9) I don’t know how to ride a bike
Yes, it’s true! I tried to learn but I was not able to grasp it. I'm not even embarrassed. I'm proud! LOL And besides, I much rather be running =)
8) Juno LOVES cheese
It’s her favorite food. You know those cheese slices that come individually wrapped? I swear she can hear one being opened from 200 yards away. Her favorite kind of cheese is pepper jack or cheddar!
7) I have a rock collection
Seriously. It’s awesome. I have quartz from Havasupai and a bunch of small colorful rocks that I found in Joshua Tree.
6) I have a Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communication
I graduated from the University of South Florida in May 2013 with a BA in Mass Comm and a focus in broadcast news. You can find some of my old reporter news packages if you scroll wayyyyy back on my YouTube channel.
5) I was a space journalist
I covered space news and rocket launches on Florida’s Space Coast from 2014 up until moving to California. I originally started off as a writer and then leveraged my digital marketing skills into becoming a social media manager which then became the foundation for my career. I found a passion for social and digital marketing, especially in tech, and decided to pursue it as a career over journalism. Hence, the reason for moving to Los Angeles.
4) Juno is not a fan of water
Despite being a Labrador, a breed known for loving the water, Juno is not a happy camper when it comes to getting wet. She gets very funny when it rains. She makes sure to avoid as much contact with the wet, soggy grass as possible by taking big leaps. She might get her paws wet at the beach, but she won’t go in deeper than 2-3 inches.
3) I have 21 plants in my bedroom
No joke. I just counted, and I think I might have an addiction to plants. Pretty sure I have about 15 more in the living room…
2) Juno loves camping, hiking & night adventures
Some of her favorite trips include stargazing at Joshua Tree, climbing sandstone arches in Utah, Milky Way chasing at Trona Pinnacles and hiking up sand dunes in the Mojave Desert.
1) We are inseparable
Juno and I are BFF. Where I go, she comes with. She’s my ride-or-die, partner-in-crime, etc. Adopting Juno was the BEST decision I ever made. She is my companion through all of life’s ups and downs and I know I can always count on her to be there for me. It is my greatest goal to provide Juno with the most fulfilling and adventurous life as possible.
A special Milky Way adventure awaits for us this weekend! I hope Juno is ready for some stargazing, s'mores and space nerds!
